Subject: Webinar – Online Safety in Safeguarding Children
The Professionals Standards Division of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of St. Thomas are pleased to announce a webinar on Online Safety in Safeguarding Children. This webinar will be facilitated by expert trainers from the eSafety commissioner – Australian Government. This is a webinar tailored to the volunteers of Syro-Malabar Eparchy of St. Thomas.
This being a very important webinar, make sure that all related members attend this training. Department heads may please encourage your respected people come along with this training.
The seminar will focus on:
- Safe online contact with children within the Australian legislative framework
- Safe use of images and videos of children on social media platforms
- Online safety in a child protection framework
- Understanding risk issues when using social media platforms/Zoom
- Organisational responsibility in preventing unwanted contact/grooming behaviours
- Interactive case discussions
- Q&A opportunities
Target audience:
The eSafety Commissioners’ webinar platform can accommodate up to 550 participants for this webinar, so we are requesting the following volunteers to register for this webinar. Please circulate the webinar link strictly to the following members only.
- This webinar is suitable for audience with age 18 and above only
- Parish Safeguarding team (Parish Priests, PSOs and members of the parish safeguarding team) from each Parish and missions of our Eparchy
- All catechism teachers, principals and catechism secretary from all Parishes and Missions
- Eparchy Media team
- Parish secretaries and pastoral council members
- Parish/Mission media team
- SMYM national, state and parish level leaders
- All Department Heads/Directors of the Eparchy
When:
Date – Saturday 11th July 2020
Time – 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm AEST (Melbourne Time)
Special Request:
We request that PSOs from all parishes/missions to get an RSVP list of volunteers once registered. This will help us to monitor the number of volunteers registered from each parish for the webinar.

To ensure your live webinar event runs smoothly, please read the attached Webinar Info document carefully and:
- Check with your IT department to ensure you can access the GoToWebinar platform.
- Ensure participants all register individually so they can participant on a PC/laptop.
- Use Google Chrome.
- Have audio on your computer/device turned on and up.
Webinar Privacy
The platform we use is GoToWebinar. To register for a webinar, participants need to provide a name and email address. The participants name and email address will become visible to others attending the webinar if participants choose to make comments/ask questions during the presentation.
Participants can anonymise their name and email address once they log in to the webinar. Instructions on how to do this are in the attached Webinar Info document. We will also provide instructions at the beginning of the webinar explaining how participants can anonymise their details.
As the organiser, please ensure you note this privacy issue and provide the Webinar Info document when you send the registration link to potential participants.
